Event Details

What can the workforce do to become more adaptable and therefore more valuable in the future?

Where are the opportunities for growth for the 20/20 worker?

How do colleges and universities fit into the development of a knowledgeable and adaptable workforce?

Is the renewable energy sector an indication of how adaptable the 20/20 worker must become?

What is the 20/20 Workforce? It is intelligent, adaptable, entrepreneurial, and interdisciplinary, with a clear vision of the changing dynamics of Ontario’s Industry.

As Ontario weathers the economic storm of recent years it also sits at a transition point that represents an incredible opportunity for its workforce. The old paradigm of well-paying jobs with narrowly defined skill sets is threatened by the desire of companies to minimize their costs. Central to their argument is the rising price of energy. Enter the Green Energy and Green Economy Act, which is facilitating the transition to a renewable energy infrastructure. This transition is symptomatic of a larger movement, one that will require skilled 20/20 workers.

The Green Energy and Green Economy Act has attracted $27B to Ontario’s economy since 2009. With each new renewable energy project that is built in Ontario there is an increased need for servicing over the lifetime of the infrastructure. Similarly, the domestic content stipulation currently in place has attracted manufacturing facilities across the province, each of which provides employment opportunities for Ontarians.
