About the Speaker:

Richard Holder

Manager, Light Rail Systems and Operational Integration, O Train Construction, City of Ottawa

30 years experience working in construction for contractors, consultants and clients on a wide range of projects in the sectors of transit and transportation, environmental and municipal engineering.

Born in UK, studied Civil Engineering in Sheffield and worked for several contractors before moving to Zambia in Africa to work on infrastructure projects funded by the United Nations, World Bank, EU and other development organisations.

Moved back to the UK with my new Canadian wife and worked for design-build contractor replacing rail bridges before “seeing the light” and moving to Canada in 1999. Worked in consulting before joining City of Ottawa in 2003 and progressed from senior project manager to Manager for Infrastructure Services. Joined Rail Implementation Office in 2012 and led Highway 417 widening project and Trillium Line expansion project.

Currently providing oversight for vehicle production, power supply and distribution, train control system, communications systems, safety and security and operational and maintenance readiness.

Part of the team to receive the City Award for Excellence for 2016 Rideau St Sinkhole Response and the City Award for Excellence for 2015 Highway 417 Widening Project.

Married with a teenage son and daughter. Keen runner, cyclist and cross-country skier.
