 Spirit of Math Summer Camps

Grades 4-6 Problem Solving and Robotics Summer Camp

This camp is for students entering grades 4-6.

In the mornings, students will join the “Robotics Square” workshop offered by the Ottawa Robotics Academy, where they will learn to build and program a robot. In the afternoon, students will focus on drills and problem solving from Spirit of Math’s unique and comprehensive curriculum. The lunch break will be filled with lots of fun and math games.

Morning Session By Ottawa Robotics Academy

Robotics Square offered by the Ottawa Robotics Academy

Using the Lego Mindstorm NXT 2.0 and EV3 robotics platform, students will work in teams to design and build functional robots (cars, humanoid, segway rider), machines (lawnmower, hammer car, power saw), and robotic animals (spider, dog, dolphin) subsequently using software to plan, design and engineer, test and modify sequences of instruction from a variety of real-life robotic behaviors. Introduction to concepts in engineering and robotic movement, kinematics, working with motors, and installing gears and sensors will tap into the child's innate desire to explore, problem solve, create, investigate and learn in both free and guided platforms. No previous robotics experience or exposure is needed.
