Event description
Come celebrate the end of OVATION with performances by Dan Robidoux, Alanna Sterling and the Silvers, and The Blind and the Beautiful!

About this event

The Ottawa Music Industry Coalition is proud to celebrate the end of the OVATION OTTAWA livestreams with one last live show! With the help of the local music community, we have managed to fundraise enough money to continue providing our artists with grants from our Ottawa Music Development Fund.

To celebrate this achievement, join us on the 29th of September at Irene's Pub on Bank St. for a fantastic concert brought to you by Dan Robidoux, Alanna Sterling and the Silvers, and The Blind and the Beautiful!

Be prepared to show proof of having received both of you Covid-19 vaccinations.

Dan Robidoux is an Ottawa-based singer-songwriter who has never been one for self-aggrandizement. He grew up in a military family, moving around the country a few times and winding up in Ottawa for post-secondary education. Double majoring at Carleton University in music and psychology, his songs explore issues in mental health, addiction, and human nature, drawing from both academia and personal experience. Dan has performed regularly in Ottawa and Toronto both with his own band and with Malak Sound, appearing on Global and Rogers TV. He has performed at numerous music festivals including RBC Bluesfest, Westfest, Festival Folk et Guitarre d’Aylmer and others. Dan has played showcases including Megaphono and Canadian Music Week. Currently he is also collaborating with award-winning singer-songwriter Emma Lamontagne. Dan’s debut album, Take It Slow, was released in the summer of 2018.

Alanna Sterling is a gender-fluid, genre-fluid vocal shapeshifter and multi-instrumental sorcerer. As an advocate for mental illness, their ultimate passion is to create musical movements out of moments of struggle, in hopes to work through life’s adversities and inspire others to overcome their own battles. Upon learning piano at the age of 2, Alanna made it her mission to pursue the arts in all of its forms - music, visual arts, dance, drama, literary works. In their teen years, Sterling took it upon themselves to learn over 40 different instruments and start writing poetry, as a way to escape from bullying, trauma, social anxiety and depression. Currently, Alanna has made her mark as a partnered streamer on Twitch, under the alias “MermaidUniocrn”, aka Merms. Merms has gathered a huge loving community of over 40k people from their weekly broadcasts, and has been able to skyrocket their career into a global platform.

The Blind And The Beautiful is an acoustic blues/roots duo comprised of guitarist/singer/songwriter Lucas Haneman and vocalist extraordinaire Megan Laurence. Visually impaired since birth, Lucas Haneman started playing guitar at age six. An expressive and soulful guitarist/vocalist with a wide-ranging sound centered in blues and funk, Haneman's original songs are built on bold melodies and finely-crafted lyrics. Along with Megan Laurence's sultry voice and ability to hold an audience in the palm of her hand, the duo delivers a variety of original blues material with seamlessly blended vocals and soaring harmonies. The duo have been working away on a debut album slated for release in 2021, and their first single "Cobweb Blues" (mixed and mastered by Philip Shaw Bova), shows a renewed commitment to traditional blues, but with a fresh twist that is unmistakably theirs. Stay tuned for more music as it becomes available!
