Description

This presentation provides an overview on Digitalization as an enabler for overcoming the Global Challenges.

A smart city is a designation given to a city that incorporates Data Management and IoT Networks technologies to enhance the quality and performance of urban services such as energy, transportation and utilities in order to reduce resource consumption, wastage and overall costs. The overarching aim of a smart city is to enhance the quality of living for its citizens through smart technology.

Smart cities / Infrastructures Technologies will be elaborated on, as one of the major areas of Digitalization applications, most specifically on Smart Buildings, Power systems and Mobility.

The presentation will also focus on the Technical Skills Gab that we are and will be facing in accommodating the needs for adequate technical resources dealing with the Future Digital world.

"Overcoming Global Challenges: Smart Cities/Infrastructures Technologies and the Digital Skills Gap" will count towards the OACETT CPD program as a partial (2 hours) fulfillment of the full-day (6-8 hours) informal/self-directed study under the Leadership/Management category.


For supporting documentation, members are required to keep a copy of the certificate that will be given out at the end of the presentation and prepare a written summary of what learned.

Dr. Tom is Country Lead - Engineering, Technology & Academic Relations

For Siemens Canada, and a member of PEO Engineering order of Honor is a respected leader, thinker and distinguished speaker on the topics of Engineering, Technology and Technical talents/skills development and education.

Tom has joined Siemens Canada in 2010 and he is the founder of the Siemens Canada Engineering and Technology Academy “SCETA”, the he established and directed since October 2014.

Tom Has about 40 years of Professional Engineering and Technical Operations Executive Management including Academic and R&D work in Electrical Power, Industrial Controls and Automation.

Dr. Tom holds a Bachelor of Engineering (Electrical & Electronics), and a Doctorate (Ph. D.) in power Electronics and Industrial Controls from Loughborough University of Technology in the UK, with a Leadership Program Certificate from Schulich Business School, York University in Ontario, Canada.
