This course will provide participants with a method of examination and treatment of the lumbar spine, pelvis and sacrum using muscle energy techniques, joint mobilization, soft tissue release and myofascial release techniques. The course will stress the functional relationship of the lumbar spine, pelvis and sacrum and the effects of muscle function and movement on the stability of the pelvis.
Following the course participants are able to:
- Describe the motion/function of the lumbar spine in relation to motion/function of the pelvis and sacrum.
- Evaluate the movement of the pelvis, lumbar spine and sacrum and explain the significance of the findings.
- Desribe the role of and perform "muscle energy", mobilization, soft tissue and myofascial release techniques in the treatment of mechanical dysfunction of the lumbar spine, pelvis and sacrum.
Bob is the "senior" member and a co-founder of Spine and Sports. Since graduating from the University of Manitoba School of Physiotherapy and obtaining his Diploma in Sports Physiotherapy and Advanced Diploma in Orthopaedic Manipulative Therapy he has been extensively involved in the sports realm. He has been a member of two Canadian Summer Olympic teams (2004 and 2012) and has been involved with numerous National and professional teams, most recently as Head Therapist for Athletics Canada. He taught in the University of Manitoba Faculty of Medicine for seven years and continues to teach Manual Therapy courses for Physios.
