About this Event

Does your child feel that school is way too boring? Do you wish to challenge your child to learn above and beyond what the school is offering? Is your child curious to dive into topics in the area of Science, History, Social Studies, Literature, Art & Music?

Students in the PACE Scholars Club will learn how to write and think critically and creatively. They will engage with knowledge from around the world and across different fields.

The World Scholars Club will prepare over weekly meetings and participate in the annual World Scholar’s Cup in April 2020 at Mulgrave School. These young scholars will have the opportunity to expand their horizons, practicing teamwork, public speaking, and persuasive writing.

The Creative Scholars Club will offer engaging writing, reading, and speaking activities. Creativity is not something you're born with, it's something you can nourish. These creative scholars will have a chance to nurture their creative side through prose, poetry, and plays.

FAQ

1. Why does my child have to take the assessment?

Since space is limited, the PACE World Scholars Club will only accept 36 Grade 5-9 students and PACE Creative Scholars Club will only accept 24 Grade 5-9 students. It is important for the club members to have sufficient reading and writing abilities in English. Only students who pass the assessment test will be allowed to register for the club.

2. What if my child wants to join the World Scholars Club AND the Creative Scholars Club?

On the day of the test, there will be two different writing prompts: one persuasive one and one creative one. If your child wishes to try for both clubs, they can write both prompts. There will be enough time to complete both.

3. My child is not in the range of grades for the club, can he still register for the assessment test?

We recommend students who are Grade 5 or above to take the test, as the student needs to be a self-motivated learner with good foundation in reading and writing skills. If your child is younger than Grade 5, we suggest you wait another year. But if your child is older than Grade 9, they are welcome to take the test and join WSC also as we will have senior teams.

4. How can my child prepare for the assessment?

There is no need to prepare for the assessment test. They will be tested on what they already know and how willing they are to think.

5. If my child misses this assessment test, will they have another chance to take it again?

Unfortunately, the assessment test is only once a year during May. If your child misses this one, they will need to wait till next May.

6. If my child doesn’t pass the assessment test, does it mean he can never be in the club?

Your child can always try again next year.

Thank you!
