Event description

Description

Juan Carlos Martínez is an award-winning artist, educator and a specialist in portraiture whose work has been featured in various publications and exhibitions in Canada and abroad. His work, primarily portraits and figurative subjects, but also includes still life and landscape, now hangs in private and public collections in Canada, the US, and in Europe.

This intensive, 5-day workshop focuses on the classic 19th century academic painting style used by William Adolphe Bouguereau, considered by many to be the finest academician of his era. Although his popularity has ranged widely over time, his technical mastery — and therefore, his methods — have been almost universally recognized as being ideal for highly rendered representational painting, and that is what we will explore in this workshop.

Participants will do a “master-copy” by working from high resolution reproductions of a Bouguereau head, head-&-shoulders, or partial figure painting. These images are provided by Juan and have been chosen by him for their quality of reproduction and for educational purposes.
