Event description

Description

KV Psychology and Counselling Clinic is pleased to welcome Alison Smith, Parenting Coach & Consultant, to our clinic for a series of practical workshops designed with modern parents' needs in mind.

This series of five workshop modules is intended to provide parents with a good understanding of positive and responsive parenting practice. You will build your toolbox with new strategies designed to address behaviour in a proactive manner. Participants who engage actively in these sessions will also increase awareness of how their background, emotions and thoughts affect their ability to parent in the way they envision.

Through direct instruction, guided activities, and discussions, you will learn to decode your child’s behaviour, identify their emotional and physical needs, then respond calmly and consistently.

Discover how you too can become a more “in tune” parent by registering for modules today!

What are past participants saying about Alison's workshops?

"There is a light at the end of the tunnel."

“I would recommend this session to family and friends.”

“I am feeling positive about changing our home environment.”

“I found it most useful knowing we aren’t alone."

“My husband and I have stumbled upon an amazing new parenting philosophy
...founded on respect for your children and building empathy, connection and empowerment with your children. It is very hard to explain in a few words, but we are completely amazed with the approach and feel that every parent (or babysitter, grandparent, anyone who spends time with your kids!) could greatly benefit from it."

"It was 1 and 1/2 hours VERY WELL SPENT! She was lovely to work with and incredibly intelligent and well-researched in her field. We did the workshop with another couple and since Sunday we have been back and forth talking about strategies and what has been working for each of us. We have already found more calmness, less stress and overall happier households....in 3 days!"

ASC's 2018 Winter Workshop Series for Parents

Feb. 11 Module 1 Patient Parenting for Busy Families: Positive Parenting 101
This is Alison Smith Coaching's popular introductory workshop, now in a new more-interactive format!

During this workshop, you will:

  • Add to your toolbox with new strategies, as you build a solid foundation for your family's future.
  • Learn why children thrive in this positive parenting environment.
  • Decide what to keep and what to leave behind from previous generations' methods.
  • Discover that you're not 'The Only One'.
  • Clarify why you've been struggling to react less, so you can intentionally respond, more.

Feb. 18 Module 2 Eye-to-Eye Parenting: Being on the Same Page
This is Alison Smith Coaching's newest workshop, created to meet the demand!

During this workshop, you will work with your spouse/partner/co-parent to:

  • Reduce conflict over parenting practices.
  • Learn why you may be feeling at odds with one another's approach and how to come together for more consistency.
  • Clarify your individual values as well as those you share (you're likely closer than you think!)
  • Discover that you're not 'The Only Ones' looking for answers.
  • Come away with a plan for moving forward together, on the same page.

Please note: This session is NOT for you if you'd rather blame each other for issues.

This session IS for you if you're willing to face some hard truths about the dynamic you've co-created with your parenting partner. And you're ready to try something different.

FAQ
Is there any point in my coming if my spouse/partner/ex is unable or unwilling to attend?

Yes. Although getting on the same page is ideal, it's not always feasible for a variety of reasons. Come and discover how much control over the parenting you actually do have, so you can create progress for yourself and your child(ren), regardless of what occurs around you.

My spouse thinks "gentle parenting" is code for "letting them do whatever they want" and "never learning that choices have consequences." Is this true?

That is a huge misconception actually. The evidence strongly proves that it is possible, and preferable! to raise great kids while using compassion and strong leadership, without needing punishment, the 'naughty step', or even rewards!
