Event description

Description

Every parent wants to support their child to reach their full potential. As we learn more about just what that looks like on the inside (in a child’s brain) and on the outside (the interactions we have with our children), the relationship we have with our children becomes critical to supporting that development.

This workshop will bring some of the new science about brain development, early mental health and parenting, together providing insight into just how we influence our child’s development every day through our interactions with them. Parents will learn how their response to a child builds brain architecture and how that same response can provide a child with an attachment that can influence how they approach future relationships.

In addition, the concept of the “village” that is needed to support healthy development will be discussed so parents can each, within their family and their community, support the village around their child and all children increasing the likelihood of good outcomes for children, their families and their communities.

The presenter will share information on brain development, how mental health is formed in the first few years, how early mental health can influence later physical and mental health outcomes, and the importance of relationships to overall development.

Featuring guest speaker Chaya Kulkarni (BAA, M.Ed, Ed.D)
