Parents of Black Children is proud to announce a series of workshops that will cover topics that disproportionately impact Black children.

Maintaining Math and Literacy Proficiency: Post COVID Solutions on Tuesday, October 20 at 7:00 pm.

By the end of this workshop, parents will know:

  • key points about the new Ontario Mathematics Curriculum
  • how to discuss and prepare for EQAO tests.
  • tips and tricks to maintain and improve math and literacy skills.

Streaming and Special Programming in Schools on Tuesday, January 12 at 7:00 pm.

By the end of this workshop, parents will:

  • have a deeper understanding of streaming from primary grades to high school
  • have learned about specialized programming, including French Immersion, International Baccalaureate, Advanced Placement, Specialist High Skills Major, Gifted Programs, Co-op and Alternative Education programs, and more.

Special Education and Gifted Programs on Tuesday, April 13 at 7:00 pm.

By the end of this workshop, parents will:

  • understand the basics of the testing process for gifted and special education and how testing leads into the identification and formulation of the IEP
  • learn how to use the IEP as a support for students, rather than a hindrance
  • identify available testing options (private or through school)

School Discipline: Suspensions and Expulsion on Tuesday, June 15 at 7:00 pm.

  • By the end of this workshop, parents will:
  • know the steps to take if a school is targeting or ‘over disciplining’ your child.
  • have examined the most recent data on suspensions and expulsions.
  • understand what steps to take to challenge disciplinary measures and have suspension records expunged.
