Event description

Description

We’ve all heard the phrase, common sense isn’t so common. Time to change the language to common knowledge in the workplace. Our focus for this training day is to enhance the safety processes you have; to document, train and set the expectations of safety in your workplace. The tools you will learn will lay the foundation for your due diligence defence and result in lower frequency and injury rates.

9:00am-9:30am: Registration

9:30am-10:30am: R.A.C.E. and the Functioning JHSC

In this session, the formal process of R.A.C.E. will be trained on and specific attention will be given to workplace psychological hazards being identified, assessed and controlled. We will practice the process and you’ll get to leave with access to templates for your workplace safety program.

The R.A.C.E. process is linked to the proper functioning of your Safety Committee. We find that often committees do not fully function, they simply exist. This session will breathe some life into your committee and provide a refreshed purpose, with focused activities. We will practice the process and you’ll get to leave with access to templates for your workplace safety program.

10:45am-12:15pm: Injury Investigations

Investigations often fail to determine what causes lead to the incident. This session looks at the behaviours of the workers and management. What leads to poor choices, inappropriate behaviours and the wrong actions taken, in the circumstances, that lead to an injury? Investigations should never be fault-finding missions, rather they are designed to find reasoning on why the incident occurred andprovide the changes needed for prevention. Learn why we do what we do in the workplace and, with this knowledge, improve your investigations and prevent injuries.

12:15pm-1:00pm: Lunch and Wellness

During lunch, participate in some mental exercises – a series of activities and quips to get you thinking!

1:00pm-2:30pm: Fit for Duty: Mitigating Your Risk

Marijuana, opioids, prescriptions medications, alcohol – what is causing impairment in your workplace? Can we reasonably expect our employees to be 100% fit for duty every day? Do you need a policy for every possible type of impairment? What does this policy look like? How do we assess impairment? Are you confused? Are you concerned your business is not ready? We tackle this topic and dispel the myths. You won’t want to miss it.

2:45pm-3:30pm: Lessons from Losses

Learn from our mistakes and others. When we explore the losses and causes, we can prevent reoccurrences. Legal cases will be explored that deal with psychological issues, impairment and protection under Human Rights, and Privacy. Nothing shocks us into reality more than exploring legal precedence for damages in workplace matters. Participants will be engaged in an honest dialogue about the cases we explore and how our workplace needs to address these matters before litigation.

3:30pm-4:30pm: Open Q&A
