Parts Work with Eating disorders, Anxiety, and Attachment Injury in Adults
Your Presenter: Andrew Seubert, LMHC, NCC
Often times therapeutic progress bogs down because the therapist is relating to the client via the left pre-frontal cortex, the thinking and analyzing part of the brain. The stuck places or so-called resistance, however, lies in the shadowland of the unconscious in the form of what we refer to as ego states or “parts.”
This five-hour webinar explores the use of parts work in dealing with eating disorders (applicable to other forms of addictions), anxiety and attachment injury. The webinar will include didactic segments, session videos and actual practice. The goal of this webinar is for participants to gain both knowledge and concrete skills.
Andrew Seubert, an EMDRIA-approved consultant and trainer and international presenter, brings his background in trauma treatment, Gestalt therapy and creative art therapies to form a highly relational model of working with personality parts.
Agenda:
9:00 - 10:15: RUG-C/Elements of relational approach to parts work. Theory and skills practice
10:15 - 10:30: Break
10:30 - 11:45: Parts in eating disorders
Two scenarios: the blame game and introjects
The Gestalt empty chair
11:45 - 12:15: Lunch
12:15 - 1:30: Parts and body image distortion
Parts and anxiety
1:30 - 1:45: Break
1:45 - 3:00: Parts and attachment repair (“reparenting”)
Objectives/ Participants will:
1. state the elements of this model represented in the acronym RUG-C.
2. describe two scenarios in parts work that challenge the therapist.
3. explain the purpose of the empty chair technique.
4. explain presenter’s hypothesis regarding the dissociated “girl in the mirror.”
