Passive house enthusiasts
We welcome you to join us this Saturday, August 12th on our passive house social – bike tour. We will start at city hall then bike along Ontario Street and visit 4 passive houses currently at various stages of construction.

9:00 - Meet at city hall and greetings from Shaun St-Amour
People who don't have a bike can rent a mobi, please sign up prior to the event at:

Please note that renting from mobi for the day will probably cost you ~$40.
9:10 to 9:30 - Brady Fought, City of Vancouver, Sustainability Group
9:30 to 10:00 - ride to Khotso Passive House at 36 West 21st Ave
10:00 to 10:15 - Erik Olofsson, Erik Olofsson Construction Inc.
Note for viewing all projects: Cyclists to meet on the sidewalk for discussion. No time is allocated to view the interior of space since clients may not allow any disturbance to their property. Projects under construction may not be suitable to for cyclists to enter. If the site is available, guests can enter the site at their own risk.
10:15 to 10:30 - ride around the corner to Kingdom Builders' project that is at 3 West 22nd Ave
10:30 to 10:45 – Shaun St-Amour to speak on behalf of Paul Lilley, Kingdom Builders
10:45 to 11:15 - ride to Lanefab's project on 38 East 37th Ave
11:15 to 11:45 - Bryn Davidson & Matt Turner, Lanefab Design/Build
11:45 to 12:15 - bike to Suvic Passive House at 22 East 60th Street
12:15 to 12:30 – Dominic Sy, DSY Designs, Rey Lim, Suvic Homes, and Pierre-Andre Santin, Muzi Passive
12:30 to 1:30 - ride back along Ontario Street to the Olympic Village Plaza and visit the Ice Box Challenge
Option: Cyclists can ride over to the Cambie and Marine skytrain station and train to Olympic Village Station. Then cycle over to the Olympic Village Plaza, located west of the Creekside Community Centre and Tap and Barrel Restaurant (1 Athlete’s Way).
1:30 to 3:00 – Shaun St-Amour, Footprint Sustainable Housing on behalf of David Arnott, Stark Architecture, Troy Glasner, E3 Eco Group, and Passive House Canada
Option: Have lunch/beverage at Tap and Barrel Restaurant. Cyclists can park bikes in the bike racks that are north of Ice Box Challenge.
Cyclists should pack enough water and snacks for the duration of the trip. Helmets must be worn when we are traveling from location to location. Bring your own bike lock. Organizers are not responsible for the cyclists' safety, please ride responsibly.

Upcoming Events:
Wednesday, August 9th - the City of Vancouver will be visiting the Ice Box Challenge site with information about sea level rise. Drop by between 2:00 and 6:00 P.M. to learn about how sea level rise will impact us here in the region, and what we can all do about it. They’ll be giving away free popsicles to those who submit a pledge to reduce greenhouse gases and slow sea level rise.

Wednesday, August 9th – PHPP User Group is meeting for their August session at RDH’s office which is located at 2415 Columbia Street (Watson Building), Vancouver. The event is held from 6:00 to 9:00pm. The topic of discussion is the Vancouver Rezoning Policy and Passive House. This session is for Certified Passive House Designers and Consultants. Professional architects/engineers working on Passive House projects are also welcome. Please RSVP at:

Monday, August 14th – Ice Box Challenge will conclude as the shells are removed from both the BC Building Code and Passive House ice boxes. These structures that were designed by Stark Architecture and E3 Eco Group have had many visitors since July 27. Don’t forget to place a guess at www.iceboxchallenge.com on how much ice will be left when the event concludes. Thanks to City of Vancouver, Passive House Canada, Vancity, and the for organizing and funding this project.
