PATHWAYS TO PUBLICATION: FINDING A HOME FOR YOUR CHILDREN’S BOOK OR TEEN NOVEL

Written a kids’ book and not sure what to do next? Wondering if you need an agent for your teen novel? Want to know how to submit your manuscript to a traditional publishing house? Unsure whether you should consider self-publishing?

Then this event is for you! Come and listen to successful authors talk about their pathways to publication-- and hear experienced professional editors sharing insights and tips from the other side of the desk.

LOCATION: Esquimalt Recreation Centre, lower level multi-purpose room. Stairs and elevator located across from main reception area.

PARKING: Ample free parking is available at the Archie Browning Sports Centre, a 200 metre walk away. Accessible free parking is also available right at Esquimalt Recreation Centre (limited space available).

WHAT’S INCLUDED:

The afternoon kicks off with our Author Panel, featuring authors Susan Juby, Laurie Elmquist, Mahtab Narsimhan, and Ria Voros. This talented group have written everything from gorgeous board books for toddlers to award winning teen novels. The panel will be moderated by Michelle Mulder.

In the second half of the event, you will hear from four editors: Sarah Harvey (senior editor at Orca Books Publishers, editor of fiction and non-fiction for children and teens), Tanya Trafford (YA, middle grade and hi-lo series editor at Orca Book Publishers, formerly senior editor at Random House), Elizabeth Kemp (board book, picture book, and early chapter book editor at Orca Books), and Sara Cassidy (freelance editor). Bring all your questions! This Editors Panel, moderated by Julie Paul, is a fantastic chance to learn from publishing industry insiders.

After the panels you will have a chance to meet the panelists, ask questions, browse and buy books and get them signed by the authors. And there will be fabulous door prizes!!! Lots of books to give away… and you could win the chance to get the first 10 pages of your manuscript critiqued by a successful author.

AND IT’S ALL FOR A GREAT CAUSE!

Best of all, this event is a fundraiser for one young refugee: an 18 year old girl who needs a safe country to call home. Every dollar raised from ticket sales will go to the Victoria Refugee Sponsorship Group, to help bring this teen to our city. Additional tax-deductible donations are gratefully accepted at the above link. All funds raised in excess of the budget and deposited with the Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria will be allocated by ICA, in its sole discretion, to the sponsorship of other refugees.

TICKETS

Tickets are $40 in advance, $45 at the door if space remains (cash only).
