Event description

Description

Welcome to the Family Mental Health Café!

This ticket reflects your interest to participate in a group discussion with people identifying themselves as part of families affected by mental illness. This discussion can include all family members, including people who have lived experience of mental illness. There may also be some service providers participating in the event.

The Peel Dufferin Family Mental Health Café is part of a research project funded by the Social Sciences and Humanities Research Council of Canada and led by Professor Charmaine Williams at the University of Toronto. Our research team is collaborating with the Canadian Mental Health Association (CMHA) Peel Dufferin Branch to recruit participants in the community. This is a free event.

The goal of this event is to gain insight into the experiences of all family members, and that includes members diagnosed with mental illness. To clarify, we define families as units of people who are members of a circle of mutual support, care and concern, including those that may not have legal or biological ties. You will be asked to share your unique perspective as a member of such a family, and your perspective on the challenges and strengths of families that do this kind of caregiving. We are very interested in knowing what you believe is needed to improve support for caregiving families in the community. It is our hope that research like this can help put family mental health on the agenda for services and policymakers in Canada.

Following registration, someone from the research team will call you for a required advance screening interview to assess and confirm eligibility and mutual fit. Those deemed eligible will then be offered an invitation to join us at the event on Saturday June 22, 2019.

Next Steps:

  1. A member of the Family Mental Health Research team will be contacting you to schedule a 10-15-minute phone screening interview to assess your eligibility. We will schedule this interview by contacting you by email or phone within 48 hours.

  2. The phone screening interview is an opportunity for you and a member of the research team to determine if you are a suitable participant for this event and it will also be an opportunity for you to ask any questions about the project.

  3. Only the people who complete the interview and meet eligibility criteria will be invited to participate in the event on Saturday June 22, 2019.

Please be mindful of the following:

1. All participants must provide individual consent to participate in this event.

2. This event will be digitally recorded (audio and video).

3. We would be grateful if you let us know if you need to cancel your plans to attend the event so we can invite people that may be on a waiting list. Please connect with the research team via email at least 24 hours before the event (fmhproject@gmail.com).
