Peer Support Training - October 2016
Fri, 21 Oct 2016, 8:30 AM – Mon, 24 Oct 2016, 4:30 PM MDT
Peer Support is defined by the action of sharing lived experience and personal knowledge or offering emotional, social or practical help. At Prairies to Peaks Consulting Inc., we believe that Peer Support is an important component of mental health care and we are dedicated to providing Peer Support Workers with the necessary tools to provide support and give hope to others who are experiencing similar journeys.
Prairies to Peaks Consulting Inc. offers training that takes a comprehensive approach to Peer Support. This training allows Certified Peer Support Workers (CPW) to use their own mental health experiences and on-going recovery to connect with, advocate for and empower other mental health consumers.
Course attendees will learn the difference between an illness story and a recovery story, the basic five stages in the recovery process, the role of peer support worker at each stage of recovery, the dynamics of power, conflict and integrity in the workplace and the meaning of Trauma Informed Services and much more.
- Location of training is at CMHA Calgary, #103 723 14th St N.W.
- Training begins at 8:30am and ends at 4:30pm each day.
- Please bring your own lunch, snacks and beverages are provided.
- Cost is only $733.95, including tax, session costs, course material, and refreshments.
Peer Support Workers become certified by Peer Support Accreditation and Certification (Canada) [PSACC] once they have completed a four-phase process, which includes the training offered by Prairies to Peaks Inc. The CPW’s lived experience empowers the mental health consumer in crisis to regain the hope, growth, and self-direction in ways that medication and well-meaning clinicians alone cannot provide. This service works in concert with psychiatric and therapeutic services for the mental health consumer.
For years Prairies To Peaks Consulting Inc. has been, and continues to be, a leader in Canadian Peer Support Worker training and we are so pleased to see Canadian provinces begin to implement peer support workers into their health care systems with tremendously positive results.
