About this event
December 6th marks Canada’s National Day of Remembrance and Action on Violence Against Women. To recognize this pivotal day for engineers world-wide, PEO Lake Ontario Chapter invites you to a panel discussion about the impact this event has had on the engineering profession, the relevance it holds today, and where we go from here.
Panelists Introduction:
- Alexandra Downie: a mechanical engineer who was living in Montreal at the time of the December 6th Massacre. She began her career in the flight simulation industry and has spent the last 25 years pursuing her passion for contributing to the higher education sector through a variety of consulting roles. Present clients include Queen’s University Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science and Engineering Deans Canada.
- Sayyed Ali Hosseini, Ph.D., P.Eng.: Assistant Professor in the Faculty of Engineering and Applied Science at Ontario Tech University.
- Noor Khabbaz: a fourth-year mechatronics engineering student from Ontario Tech University. Her passion for engineering was sparked by an interest in robotics and the desire to think about the societal impacts of technology. As a co-president of Ontario Tech's Women in Engineering Society, Noor strives to strengthen the sense of community between women in her field and to help overcome the challenges they face.
