PEO Ottawa Chapter New Members Night - Certificate Presentation Ceremony

Hello New PEO Member,

I would like to congratulate you on completing your PEO licensing requirements. It is my pleasure to invite you to attend the PEO Ottawa Chapter New Members Night (NMN) - certificate presentation ceremony on Thursday December 8, 2016 at the RA Center, (2455 Riverside Drive), Clark Hall.

The executives of the PEO Ottawa Chapter look forward to meeting you, presenting you with your certificate, and welcoming you to the Ottawa Chapter.  Your family members or special guests are most welcome to join you for this ceremony (max two (2) per recipient free of charge, additional guests at $7.50 per person to an absolute maximum of 4 guests in total). Please order your ticket and your guest tickets (maximum two) using this Eventbrite link: by end of day Friday December 2, 2016.

Note: There is no charge for new members or their first two guests. Register yourself alone as the new member in prompt #1 ("New PEO Member") and select one or two Guests in prompt #2 ("New Members' Guests"). You need not fill in prompt 2 if coming alone. You may bring additional guests (up to two additional guests, or four guests in total) if you desire; however, there is a charge for each additional guest as indicated in the EventBrite registry. You can register these additional guests in prompt #3 ("Additional Guests for New PEO Member").

The topic of the keynote speech for the evening is the effects the recommendations coming from the Elliot Lake Inquiry could have on the Engineering Profession should they be implemented. The presentation begins with a discussion of the circumstances surrounding the collapse of the Algo Centre Mall in Elliot Lake, Ontario on June 23, 2012. It then focuses on the Inquiry itself, topics addressed at the Inquiry and some of the evidence presented at the Inquiry. The presentation then moves into the findings of the Inquiry and the recommendations made by Mr. Justice Paul R. Belanger as a result of those findings. We then focus on what these recommendations could mean for the Engineering Profession if implemented and best practices for those in the Engineering Profession going forward.

The keynote speaker will be Todd Storms. Todd is a partner at Templeman Menninga LLP and head of the firms Construction and Corporate litigation department. Prior to joining Templeman’s, Todd practiced at International Law Firms in both Toronto and Ottawa. Todd has a wide range of litigation experience but focuses primarily on working with construction companies, architects, various trades, engineering firms, corporations and Municipalities with respect to their corporate and litigation needs. Todd was counsel for both individual engineers and an engineer firm during the RCMP investigation into the Algo Mall Centre collapse and at the Elliot Lake Inquiry. In his spare time, Todd competes in Ironman Triathlons, Ultra Marathons and Marathons and plays some trumpet when he can find the time.

Please note that if you are unable to attend this presentation ceremony, you need not register with Eventbrite. You can contact me directly at and make arrangements either to pick up your certificate or to have it presented at the next ceremony in February 2017.

Certificates will be available for pickup between Monday December 12 and Friday January 27, 2017 (excluding Dec 23, Dec 26 – Dec 30 and January 2) during normal business hours of 8:30am and 4:30pm at the offices of Lascelles Engineering, 116 Albert Street, Suite 320.
