Description

Focus Disability Network Society's annual conference begins with keynote speaker Alyson Seale from the University of the Fraser Valley, on the topic, "Why is Ableism So Hard to See?". Her presentation is followed by workshops of your choice.

Workshops:

1) Hearing Voices That Are Distressing - Annette Borrows, Community Futures South Fraser

  • A Simulated Voice Hearing Experience, followed by debrief and discussion around coping skills.

2) Cannabis 101: The Highs and Lows - Dawn Taylor and Scott Williams, PLEA Community Services

  • Highlights cannabis use as coping and pain management strategies, its recreational use and potential concerns, and guidelines for use within employment support situations.

3) Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder - Marsha Wilson, Douglas College

  • Covers: the basic features of FASD; Primary and Secondary Disabilities; a useful framework to include in your work as practitioners. You will also gain ideas to add to your tool kits as you support individuals in employment settings.
