UDI OKANAGAN Luncheon - Apr. 24, 2014
People, Places and Participation:
How Demographic & Economic Forces Are Shaping Our World, and Why You Should Care
PRESENTED BY:
Ryan Berlin - Urban Futures
The aging of the baby boom generation, and of the whole of BC’s and the Okanagan’s population, is impacting labour force participation, consumer spending patterns, residential mortgage activity, and countless other dimensions of our society. Perhaps most importantly, the aging of our population could begin to significantly impact our ability to generate the resources required to pay for life's necessities such as health care, housing, and hockey tickets in the coming years. As a result, our prospects for economic growth will increasingly hinge on both the degree to which other countries want the stuff we make and our ability to make that stuff more efficiently.
In addition to presenting the facts on our demographic and economic realities, Ryan will share a framework that can assist large corporations, SMEs, community economic development organizations, real estate industry groups, and municipal and regional organizations in managing the changes at hand.
