The Permaculture Design Certificate course is an internationally-recognized, seventy-two hour course resulting in a Permaculture Design Certificate. It provides an introduction to permaculture design as set forth by movement founder Bill Mollison. The course is taught by Graham Calder.

The PDC serves as foundation for further permaculture work and study and is a prerequisite for the Diploma in Permaculture Design, offered through The Permaculture Institute. Credit for this course is now accepted by a growing number of universities around the world.

To date, thousands of permaculture designers worldwide have been certified through this course, and now comprise a global network of educators, ecological activists who influence major corporations, individuals creating new business alternatives and groups of committed people working together to change the way we view and design into our landscapes.

The course covers sustainable living systems for a wide variety of landscapes and climates. It includes the application of permaculture principles to food production, home design, construction, energy conservation and generation, and explores alternative economic structures and legal strategies.

Specific topics include:

* Theory and principles of permaculture
* Eco-friendly house placement and design
* Energy conservation techniques for cold climates
* Recycling and waste management
* Organic food production
* Water harvesting and management
* Ecological pest control
* Drought-proofing

Join us for this world recognized Permaculture Design Certification (PDC). We are transforming a 75 acre rural homestead into a Permaculture Institute. Our focus is on creating jobs, demonstrating sustainable Community Development & accessible learning opportunities.

In this course we will plant edible forest gardens, grow medicinal & edible mushrooms, build with cob & other natural materials, recreate biodiversity habitat, learn how to make an income with small agro-enterprise initiatives and much more.

The course facilitated by Graham Calder is a broad curriculum demonstrating the principles, patterns & practices of permaculture design.  It utilizes a variety of perspectives from local self sufficiency to international aid. The course is forged to give a foundation for restoring, rebuilding and reconnecting human ecosystems with a focus on Food Systems.

Canarie Farm

Our Burgeoning Permaculture   Institute is in its initial phases of development, Breaking ground in 2011, the seeds of the site have now been sown.

Our Mission is to establish a permaculture demonstration and education hub for Eastern Canada. Providing jobs, learning & volunteering opportunities as well as internships & apprenticeships for eager individuals.

This site will act as a base for developing a sustainable & abundant design strategy for the Temperate and maritime climate zones. While providing an ecosystem of enterprises  functioning in coexistence to form the workings of this institute.

This is a 75 acre site that has never had pesticides or other chemicals on the land. We will be planting food forests , expanding the swales, building with cob, in 2013.

Graham Calder

Brought up on 75 acres of subsistence farm. Graham was in the garden before he could walk. With a Ba in Human Environment, minor in ecology from Concordia University, he completed his PDC with Pacific Permaculture.

After founding his social enterprise in 2009, P3 Permaculture, he then received an apprenticeship with Geoff Lawton at the Permaculture Research Institute of Australia.  It was there that he took his specific PDC Teacher Training Certification and an Earthworks certification.

He now seeks to enhance the application of the people care ethic within his courses.  This is done through sponsoring local farmers and supporting community groups, offering yoga and goal coaching to design your life.

Marie Claire Gagnier

Introduced in 2007 with a soothing hatha yoga class, Marie Claire’s life took a passionate turn. Since then, her eclectic practice blossoms through exploring bliss and stillness, while her teaching blends simplicity and ease. Shefuses elements of vinyasa, power, and restorative yoga, along with basic pranayama and meditation.

She recently discovered Permaculture and completed her PDC in Nova Scotia in 2011.Inspired by the healing powers of laughter and Mother Earth, her approach to life emphasizes healthy relationships with ourselves, others and our land. She now integrates yoga, goal coaching, and children’s animation, and eco-retreats with permaculture.

P3 Permacultre

P3 Permaculture is a Social enterprise guided towards social sustainability, development, education and design.  We teach the 72 hour world recognized Permaculture Design Certification Course.  We also offer consultation and Design services for clients homes, farms, and community developments.  Our projects vary from residential sub-urban self-sufficiency, Agricultural productivity increase through biointensive farming and Developing Demonstration sites for education purposes.

Our head permaculture designer and founder of P3 Permaculture Design, Graham Calder, has a variety of qualifications.  He was raised on a 75 acre organic subsistence farm in Nova Scotia, where he dug his hands into his very first garden patch at the age of 5. His immersion in this naturally productive environment has lead to the understanding of the great importance this fundamental link to the planet has on a child throughout their development.

He developed his skills in Landscaping over a period of 3 years doing various design projects concentrating on aesthetic landscape design before embarking on his journey to Montreal to study a bachelor’s degree in Human Environment specialising in Ecology at Concordia University. During his studies he worked for Environment Canada’s museum of the environment, the Biosphere, where he refined his skills in environmental education with a diversity of age groups ranging from 5-75 years of age and cultures from around the world.  Upon his completion of this Degree he acquired an apprenticeship in Permaculture design education at the Pacific Permaculture Institute on Denman Island, BC. Once the apprenticeship was complete he proceeded to study the intensive Permaculture Design Certification with Pacific Permaculture.

Now We are working on developing as many educational permaculture demonstration sites that can produce an abundance of food at the minimum of labour input.
