Event description

Description

How do personal belongings carry memories? Join Project 40 Collective for an artistic-archival workshop dedicated to exploring our lived experiences in relation to communal diasporic narratives. Through a series of guided art and reflective activities, including mark-making, papercutting and photographing, participants are encouraged to treat personal objects as a starting point for reconnecting and recording their stories of migration and place-making.

This workshop consists of four activities:
1. Communal Sharing
2. Communal Documentation
3. Personal Documentation
4. Visual Record

Facilitated by Abby Ho and Mirae Lee of Project 40 Collective as part of CONVENIENCE for Myseum 2018.

---

Abby Ho is the Artistic Director of Project 40, and Managing Editor at LooseLeaf Magazine. She is a multidisciplinary artist who is interested in the accessibility of art and how art can be used as a social tool to bridge gaps within different cultures. She is also a fifth year student at OCAD U studying Cross-Disciplinary Studies: Life Studies.

Mirae Lee is the Community Director of Project 40, a visual/text-based content creator, and an aspiring anthropologist. Her creative practice is rooted in her ongoing negotiation with her hyphenated identity and her positionality on the land she resides and those she shares it with. She is a fifth year student at University of Toronto studying Sociocultural Anthropology and Art History.

CONVENIENCE is an exhibition fronting as a quasi-convenience store. Treating the Asian mom-and-pop shop as a point of departure, the exhibition extends the notion of 'convenience' beyond built commercial environments to characterize immigrant life. With an intention to challenge easy categories of social, racial, and economic difference, the exhibition re-conceptualizes the site of the convenience store into a place of creative memory and possibility. For more details.

Curated by Belinda Kwan and Tak Pham, CONVENIENCE features works by Heidi Cho, Meera Sethi, Manny Trinh, Michael Veneracion, Xiaojing Yan, and Shellie Zhang.
