Event description
Our first Podcast of 2021 happens in July. This podcast was chosen to learn more about the injustice that is happening to Indigenous Women.

About this Event

Ladies...our 'book club' for 2021 is going to be amazing. This monthly 'reading' club meets to discuss 1 personal growth 'book' per month. We have expanded to include authors who are women of color as well as different media like podcasts and documentaries. We want more women in on our discussions so we thought we would mix this up a bit.

Our first Podcast of 2021 happens in July. This podcast was chosen to learn more about the injustice that is happening to Indigenous Women here in Canada. BBC News reported on June 1, 2019* that there was a national public inquiry into possibly thousands of missing and murdered indigenous women in Canada has called the deaths a "Canadian genocide".

The 1,200-page document reportedly blames the disproportionate violence faced by indigenous women on deep-rooted colonialism and state inaction.

The findings of the National Inquiry into Murdered and Missing Indigenous Women and Girls are long-awaited in Canada, where there are about 1.6m indigenous people.

The CBC podcast , "Missing and Murdered: Who Killed Alberta Williams" is produced and reported by Connie Walker and Marnie Luke

In 1989, 24-year-old Alberta Williams was found dead along the Highway of Tears near Prince Rupert, B.C. Police never caught her killer.

Twenty-seven years later, her unsolved murder continues to haunt her family — and the retired cop who says he knows who did it.

In this 8 episode podcast, one of the most informative episodes gives us insight of the impact that residential schools has had on generations of indigenous families. It is very insightful and unforgettable.

Join us this July and listen with an open heart and mind.
