Event description

Description

There is no linear path to healing in the aftermath of a traumatic event. Many people find healing through a variety of activities - whether it be traditional counselling, restorative justice, or engaging in creative practices.

Join Community Justice Initiatives and the Sexual Assault Support Centre on May 27 at Catalyst 137 for a free evening of healing activities in honour of Victims and Survivors of Crime Week 2019. We want to showcase the many different paths to healing that are available within Waterloo Region. The evening will include speakers sharing their healing journeys, and a variety of healing stations, including art, Circle practice and political activism.

This event will be a safe space and welcoming of all genders, perspectives and experiences and is made possible by funding from the Department of Justice. All people are welcome - service providers, those who have experienced harm or trauma, as well as members of the general public looking to increase their awareness of services available in our community.

This event is co-hosted by Community Justice Initiatives and the Sexaul Assault Support Centre.

CJI is a non-profit, restorative justice organization. Restorative Justice is a way of addressing conflict and crime that engages the person who caused the harm, people who were affected by the harm, and the community. CJI provides conflict resolution services, support for people impacted by sexual trauma, assistance for families involved with child protection, reintegration support for adults returning to the community from prison or custody, and integration support for newcomer Canadian youth.

SASC supports survivors of sexual violence. Using an intersectional feminist approach, SASC works to transform systems which promote gender-based violence. They offer a 24-hour support line, individual counselling, support groups, public education, among other services.
