Description

Complimentary seminar presented by: Roy A Berg JD, LLM (US TAX), Marsha-Laine Dungog JD, LLM (US TAX), and Alexander Marino JD, LLM (US TAX)

On Dec. 22, 2017, President Trump signed into law the biggest US tax reform bill in 31 years, changing the lives of Americans at home and abroad. Many US residents will see an immediate benefit on their 2018 tax return, but for US expats and green card holders living abroad, things may have changed for the worse. The question of whether now is the right time to renounce your US citizenship is never more prescient.

US expats in Australia have experienced the financial consequences of US tax compliance more acutely than expats in other countries, leading many to consider the option of renouncing their US citizenship. The process can be complex and daunting—it is essential to ensure you renounce properly to avoid potential pitfalls that may impact your financial future.

On March 13, 2018, Moodys Gartner Tax Law will present a complimentary seminar on the main topics of interest concerning the renunciation of your US citizenship, and how your decision might affect you. Topics will include:

  • How US tax reform impacts US citizens living in Australia (and what you can do about it)

  • Pros and cons of renouncing US citizenship

  • How to avoid pitfalls like the US Exit Tax and becoming barred from the US

  • US taxation of the Australian Superannuation fund
