Description

PHO Grand Rounds: Lead exposures and public health: A jurisdictional scan of blood lead reporting programs

Over the past half-century, Canadians have seen a dramatic decline in their blood lead concentrations. To achieve further reductions in exposure, we need to continue policies such as those that address lead in gasoline and paint which have greatly reduced population lead exposures to date. Additionally, there is still a need to identify highly exposed subgroups and individuals who may still be at risk for lead exposures.

Some jurisdictions outside of Ontario mandate reporting of blood lead test results for public health follow-up of cases with elevated blood lead. This presentation will discuss the findings of a jurisdictional scan and their relevance in the Ontario context.

Presenter: Dr. JinHee Kim

JinHee has been a Public Health Physician with the Environmental and Occupational Health team at Public Health Ontario since 2014. Before that, she briefly worked at Toronto Public Health as an Associate Medical Officer of Health.
