PHO Grand Rounds: Surveillance systems as a cornerstone to public health decision-making: The Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) experience

During this presentation, Dr. Choi will share his experience in developing and applying public health surveillance systems and networks at the local, provincial, national, and international levels. Methods adopted by the Pan American Health Organization (PAHO) to prioritize program areas will be described, which are based on surveillance data and statistics. Following its development and validation, the PAHO approach is now used to prioritize program areas and guide resource allocations. This presentation will help demonstrate how surveillance systems and networks are a cornerstone to public health programs and decision-making from local through to global levels.
