Description

Photo-based Installation: Approaches to Presenting Images

This workshop looks at creative and non-traditional approaches to presenting, framing and installing photographs. Drawing from contemporary photo-based practices, artist Steven Beckly will suggest and demonstrate various strategies that challenge the traditional ways of framing and finishing images for presentation. Participants will also have the opportunity to present and receive feedback on works-in-progress that can be enriched through alternative approaches to photographic installation.

Free, space limited, registration is required.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION

This program is presented in conjunction with the Doris McCarthy Gallery exhibition It Can Only Be This Place (September 4 - November 3, 2018). Curated by Tiffany Schofield, the exhibition is an open collection of stories, impressions, and speculations of Scarborough developed by Hiba Abdallah, with Steven Beckly, Alyssa Bistonath, and Patrick Cruz. Each work provides an intimate look at Scarborough and the various communities that have come to call it home. Through complex, intersecting, and often unresolved narratives, It Can Only Be This Place makes space for past, present, and future versions of Scarborough previously untold.

Generously supported by the Toronto Arts Council, Canada Council for the Arts, and U of T's Affinity Partner TD Insurance.
