Event description

Description

Come, join Delores Montpetit and her husband Ken Skuba on a Contemplative Pilgrimage.

We will be exploring Assisi and the surrounding areas in Umbria, Tuscany and Lazio. You will visit Franciscan, Culinary and Artisan sites with a small pilgrimage group of up to 16 pilgrims.

Assisi is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and is one of the most well maintained medieval villages in Italy. As a spiritual destination and pilgrimage site it is second only to the Vatican. We have chosen it again because we have experienced the "Spirit of Assisi." We are answering its call, to return once again with pilgrims who have also heard the call to come, pray, meditate, heal, transform and be a light for this world.

Our experience of Assisi is as a "thin place". A thin place is a place where the veil that separates heaven and earth is lifted and one is able to receive a glimpse of the glory of God, the Divine or the transcendent. Heaven and earth, the Celtic saying goes, are only three feet apart, but in thin places that distance is even shorter. Thin places not only transcend the senses. Thin places gift us with a communion with God, with those who have crossed over, with all who have walked there before and those who are being invited to walk now.

This pilgrimage will include the contemplative practices such as Meditation, Reflective Journaling, Visio Divina, Simple Art Expressions and The Art of Seeing and Slowing Down with our cameras. Bring whichever camera you have, from cell phones to professional cameras, it’s about being present to the gifts around us.

The representatives of the world’s main religions have chosen Assisi as the symbol of Peace, it is a very important place for inter-religious dialogue. "The World Day of Prayer for Peace" was held in Assisi on 27th October, 1986 when Pope John Paul II invited the representatives of the world religions to Assisi to pray for peace. Inter-religious dialogue on a large scale and in practice started after the "World Day of Prayer for Peace" in Assisi. St Francis can rightly be considered the forerunner of inter-religious dialogue because of his meeting with the Muslims in the Middle East, especially with the Sultan of Egypt, Melek el Kamil, during the 3rd Crusade in 1219-20

Pope Francis made a pilgrimage to the hillside Italian town of Assisi in October 2013, following in the footsteps of his namesake St. Francis, to honour the saints feast day. During his talks which I attended, he made it clear that he is inviting us to re-discover St. Francis and St. Clare. We would be honoured to do this with you.
