Don't miss this interesting and informative Lunch and Learn on "Pipeline and Corrosion Industry Standards - updates and background", with presentations from two knowledgeable speakers:

Presentation 1: "CSA Z662 Updates", Dean Carnes, P.Eng., Canadian Natural Resources Ltd.

Bio: Dean has a B.A.Sc. degree in Metals and Materials Engineering from the University of British Columbia and is a registered Professional Engineer in Alberta, British Columbia, and Saskatchewan. He has been working in the Oil and Gas industry since 2000 and has been involved with CSA Standards Committees in the "Petroleum and Natural Gas Industry Pipeline Systems and Materials" area since around 2003. For Z662 he is currently serving as a Vice Chair on the Technical Committee, Chair of the Production Technical Committee, and is an active member of the Executive Committee, Operations and Systems Integrity Technical Subcommittee, and several Task Forces. He worked with Imperial Oil Resources from 2000 to 2007 and has been with Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. for several years. Dean's current role is Corporate Integrity Engineer in the Corporate Integrity Advisory (CIA) group at CNRL.

Presentation 2: "NACE International Standards - What they Are and How to Get Involved." J.F. (Jim) Chmilar, P. Eng. FNACE, Chmilar & Associates Consulting Ltd.

Bio: To afford his NACE habit, Jim formed Chmilar & Associates Consulting Ltd. in March 2003 after a 30+ year career with Associated Corrosion Consultants Ltd. (ACCL) which was purchased by CC Technologies of Dublin, Ohio in 1997, and today is a DNV GL. With ACCL he was Vice President responsible for quality of engineering designs, and testing and inspection by technical staff. Jim has remained very active in the field evaluations including design, installation and commissioning of cathodic protection systems. Today one of his jobs is Cathodic Protection Specialist for Wood PLC.

Jim is a member of APEGA and also a Life Member of NACE International. He was an Officer in Calgary Section (1982-88), serving as Past Chair (1987-88), Canadian Region Western Conference Chair in 1990, and Conference Finance Chair in 1994, 1999, and 2003. Jim was a NACE Director and chair of the Technical Practices Committee (TPC) from 1993 to 1995, NACE Director and Chair of the technical and Research Activity Committee (TRAC) from 1999-2001 and Chair of the NACE Policy Committee from 2006 - 2009. He also chaired "Task Group 360" Review of SPO169-2007 (formally RP0169)" from Sept. 2006-2014 and Task Group 020 "Review of TM0497-2012 Measurement Techniques Related to Criteria for Cathodic Protection" from January 2017 to September 2018. Currently a member of TCC Management (since 1991), Chair of the TCC Advisory Committee on Operations (since 2009), and Chair of NACE International Institute Policy & Practices Committee (since 2017). Jim has received the NACE Distinguished Service Award 1990, NACE R.A. Brannon Award 2010, NACE TCC Harry Byars Memorial Award 2017 (inaugural), and the NACE Fellow Honor April 2018.
