Share PITCH and POLISH - Edmonton

Event Details

Join the Alberta Magazine Publishers Association and the Writers’ Guild of Alberta on Dec. 6, 2014 in Edmonton for an afternoon of theoretical and hands on learning for freelance writers and magazine professionals.

Award-winning writer and editor Curtis Gillespie will walk participants through strategies on how-to enrich your stories using narrative techniques. This session will explore why narrative has been traditionally underused in magazines and what makes this tool so powerful. Gillespie will also share his insights for editors when working with new writers.

Freelance writers then have an opportunity to pitch story ideas in one-on-one sessions with Edmonton editors (Rianne Stewart – Alberta Construction Magazine, Steven Sandor – Avenue Edmonton, Matthew Stepanic – Glass Buffalo, Lindsay Shapka – Where Edmonton). You’ll receive feedback, specific advice and maybe even sell a story.

Location: Percy Page Centre (11759 Groat Road)

Date: Dec. 6, 2014

Seminar: 12:30 – 1:30 p.m.

Pitches: 1:30 – 4 p.m.

$30 AMPA member rate; $40 regular rate (
Individual pitch session length and timeslot will be coordinated in advance. You may book a timeslot with more than one editor, depending on availability.)

Watch for details on Pitch and Polish in Calgary with the CBC’s Jim Brown on January 20, 2015.
