Title: Caring for those who care for us: Musculoskeletal injury prevention for health care professionals

Abstract: Healthcare research is rich with examples of pharmaceutical interventions, the development and validation of novel surgical methods and advances in patient care technologies. However, what about the body of research that explores and advances our ability to protect those that care for us? In this presentation, Dr. Fischer will describe and summarize a series of recent and ongoing research projects in his lab that have aimed to protect the health and well-being of healthcare professionals through primary musculoskeletal injury prevention. Using examples and vignettes from pre-hospital emergency care settings, Dr. Fischer will discuss research on patient handling biomechanics, emerging lift-assist related technologies, human factors & ergonomics standards, and future opportunities to enhance musculoskeletal injury prevention for healthcare professionals.
