A monthly presentation and discussion group with a certified nutritionist on various topics related to a whole food plant based lifestyle.

About this event

If you’re interested in plant-based nutrition and have questions about getting enough nutrients, incorporating more plant-based foods into your meals, or just curious to know more about this lifestyle, then these sessions are for you.

Different topics are planned each week along with a review of the basics, including...

  • protein (animal/plant based, beans/greens, amounts, etc.)
  • dairy (milk, cheese, eggs, alternatives, industry, etc.)
  • carbs (simple, complex, starchy vegetables, GMO, etc.)
  • gluten (whole grains, processed, alternatives, etc.)
  • fat (saturates, healthy oils, omega 3/6/9, etc.)
  • Canada's Food Guide (changes, nutrition labels, etc.)
  • resources (videos, websites, tools, books, etc.)
  • recipes (substitutions, prepping, batch cooking, etc.)
  • nutritional density (red light foods, serving sizes, etc.)
  • and more...

WHEN: Monthly on the 2nd last Thursday @ 7:00 PM EST (CAN/US)

ZOOM ONLINE: Attendees will receive a link to this session after selecting an RSVP ticket (as well as 48 hours prior, 2 hours prior, and 10 minutes before the event begins) for you to join the video conference on your phone, tablet or PC from the comfort of your own space.

With a mixture of story sharing, presenting, and short video clips, the workshop is scheduled to run for 1.5 hours with time afterwards for open Q&A.

ABOUT PLANT BASED NUTRITION

Plant-based nutrition isn’t a hard concept, but there are many concerns from a wide range of topics, about if obtaining proper amounts of nutrients is possible without animal foods in the diet. Our country has prioritized processed foods and a large amount of animal-based foods as being a part of the Standard North American diet, but it doesn’t have to be that way.

We have the ability to eat a whole foods, unprocessed diet without eating animals and obtain all the nutrients we need in the process. Wondering about where you’ll get your protein, calcium, iron, and B vitamins? No need!

Learn about how to base your diet off of whole foods, and how to be sure to eat a variety of vegetables, leafy greens, fruits, nuts, seeds, beans, and legumes. Jim & Janet will talk about how these foods all contain a variety of nutrients that will sustain someone who’s not eating animal-based foods and in the meantime, add more fiber, phytonutrients, and antioxidants into your diet.

A whole foods vegan diet can give your body everything it needs, though many of you will still have some questions, and this is an opportunity to learn more. Here you can get help with some of the most common areas of concern, along with answers and information to explore, including a list of the most important nutrients you need and where to find them in a plant-based diet.
