Plant Yourself
Date and time
Connect to culture and community, use your imagination and have fun while creating a 'leaf' to hang on our SOUTH COQUITLAM Community Tree!
About this event
Plant Yourself is an opportunity for youth living in South Coquitlam to showcase their unique cultural background, build community connections, and participate in Truth and Reconciliation at a local level by:
Knowing, Growing and Showing your cultural roots, all while grounding yourself on the traditional lands of the Kwikwetlem First Nation.
As youth arrive at this no-cost event, located at the covered picnic area at Blue Mountain Park (near tennis courts at the corner of King Albert and Porter Streets), they will receive a Plant Yourself t-shirt and swag bag.
After participating in discussions led by Indigenous leaders, youth will be provided with paint and other art supplies to create a personalized leaf; representing their cultural identity, as well as their connection to the Kwikwetlem First Nation territory.
During this time, youth will enjoy music, snacks and engagement with fellow participants, special guests and event organizers! Each leaf will then be proudly hung on the Community Tree.
Further details of how to prepare for the day will be emailed out in a Welcome Letter once registration is complete.
But this is just the beginning!!! Youth will be challenged to take Plant Yourself across the South Coquitlam community...adding more and more leaves, and building more and more connections.
As the Community Tree moves from place to place, a permanent home will be found to display the completed leaves and we will watch our Community Tree grow into a forest!
The BEST part...by participating on May 28th, you will be a member of the first-ever Plant Yourself group! We are the OP's (Original Planters)!!!
There are only 25 spots available - register today!
