Who is Plastic Acid Orchestra?
Plastic Acid Orchestra is a modern, full symphony orchestra founded by Music Director, Bryan Deans. PAO brings a symphonic sound with a modern edge that bridges the gap between the old and the new. For more info please visit Plastic Acid Orchestra.
What music should I expect to hear?
Symphonic... progressive... modern. Check out the video from our 2012 performance at the Vogue Theatre. This year we have Plastic Acid original pieces plus compositions from The Living (a kaleidoscope of classical chamber-music sounds fused with rock, metal, funk and splashes of world music), Martin Reisle, Elliot Vaughan, and Giorgio Magnanensi whose sound is described as assemblages without center, (… or maybe a myriad of them); exposition and juxtapositions, mutations, vibrations, gestures and figures: anxiety, noise, dream.
Why are we doing donations vs. standard tickets?
We want you to be in our audience - no barriers. We have been putting on these amazing, full-sized symphony orchestra shows for over 8 years in Vancouver and we don't want you to miss out on this next one. We hope that you believe in this project and we want your support - whatever you can afford.
Why do attendees have to register their ticket?
It is free to register! You give us your cash donation at the door for admission.
This is a licensed, private event. In order to meet our legal obligations we need you to have a registered ticket and then you can make your donation at the door. Additionally, we have limited space in this venue, so early registration is a good idea and guarantees you will get in.
How do we put on such a huge show as independents?
Yes, we are indie. Indie orchestras (and bowties) are cool - especially because we are a full-sized symphony. There are a handful of key people who have (thankfully) been helping out for ages. Bryan, Nova, Doug, Marissa, Jim, Mariah, Brad, Pat, Nick, Martin and so many others who all pitch in long hours to make this happen.
With our performers, venue, marketing, etc. it costs approximately $8,000 for us to put on this show. This is a reasonable cost for a full orchestra, but still expensive. With your support and attendance we believe we can reach this goal. We are hoping those who give more can offset those who can't afford as much.
Why do we put on this concert?
We have always wanted to create an experience for the audience which shows that orchestras are not just old-timey but can be modern, high-energy and amazing. We want to be the "rock concert" of symphony orchestras and hopefully introduce new, life-long fans to symphonic music. And, hundreds of people have responded by coming out to our shows. All of our past shows have been huge successes, however due to the high costs that usually means we just barely cover costs.
What happens if we raise more money than needed?
That would literally blow our collective minds. But, if that happens, we would share that with all involved and put it towards the next show.
Last words...
We are truly humbled and thankful for the support we have received over the years from our musicians, volunteers and from attendees like you. As you can tell, we are all passionate about symphonic music and our only goal is give you a great musical experience. If you would like to help further, please forward this event page to your friends or share on your social media.
See you at the show!
