Play the Pain (Play, Act, Dance)
Event Information
Description
On the second day of Play the Pain Event (which will start on Oct 1), we will shift the focus from "expressions of pain" to "acts of healing".
The event starts at 10:00 with mini-talks about the neuroscience of pain-reducing effects of music; followed by a workshop (10:30) with Ingrid Wissink (Music therapist) to improvise music. A free Yoga class will be offered by Concordia Yoga Club founder, Afra Tucker (11:30).
Bring your lunch and hang out in the Medis Spa Zone to play VR an Wii games and chat with the organizer of Play the Pain, Dr Naj Mahani.
After lunch, Melissa Holland will introduce the Dr Clown Foundation and give a workshop (13:00) on theatrical improvisation and pain. This will be followed by a Cinema-Historical presentation by Professor Rosanna Maule (14:30), who will talk about the philosophy of laughter and why Charlie Chaplin's tooth-ache makes us laugh.
We close the event (16:30-18:00) with artist Sarah Wendt who will give Disco Dance lessons as we explore and discuss its healing potential.
The 4TH SPACE is located in Concordia's Library building (Corner of Maisonneuve & McKay). It is an open welcoming gallery of research and creative activities that take place at Concordia University. It is free and open to all. You can walk in and out, if you don't like the activities.
