Henry Purcell's Dido and Aeneas

The greatest masterpiece of the English Baroque, Dido and Aeneas has some of the most wonderful characters and arias in the operatic repertoire. Based on the Virgil epic, the story recounts the brief courtship between Queen Dido of Carthage and Prince Aeneas of Troy.


The Silver Swan: English Renaissance Madrigals
February 17, 2019 - 3pm & 8pm

For 17th-Century England the Madrigal was all the rage. This style of 4- or 5-part vocal music, imported from Italy in the volume Musica Transalpina, became so popular in Britain that they started to write some in their own language. Featuring works by Weelkes, Gibbons, Wilbye, Morley and more.


Benjamin Britten's The Little Sweep
May 12, 2019 - 3pm & 8pm

Set in Victorian England, The Little Sweep tells the story of a poor boy who is forced to work as a sweep and finds himself getting stuck in the chimney of a grand mansion. Fortunately for him, there are children in the house who come to his aid. Complete with interactive scenes and audience singalong songs, this masterpiece of children’s theatre will delight both young and old.
