Description

“To Make Merry Withal: Playing with Shakespeare”

Shakespeare was a playwright, who wrote plays, for a company of players, in a playhouse. Several years after his death, his plays were gathered together and called The Complete Works – and we have been working with them ever since. Let’s play!!

Join Andrea Gammon, Community Cultural Coordinator for the City of St. Albert and former Director of Education at the Stratford [Shakespeare] Festival, and Alana Hawley, actor, vocal coach, director, and theatre educator for a lively exploration of active approaches to Shakespeare.

In this workshop, using a drama-based approach, participants will explore how ‘playing’ with Shakespeare can inspire both an understanding and ownership of Shakespeare and bring the study of Shakespeare’s plays to life in the classroom. Participants will learn methods for freeing creativity and building playful and emotionally safe and intellectually rigorous classrooms. They will learn appropriate strategies to help students experience the power and beauty of Shakespeare’s language, and to engage with the text in deeper and more personal ways.

Appropriate for teachers, artist educators, directors working with young people, and emerging artists.

Light refreshments provided.
