Event description

Description

The tying of knots for both the creation of fabric and for religious purposes has a very long history and is found in many cultures around the world.

It first appears as an important part of Judaism, in the Torah, in Bamidbar (Numbers), where we learn about wearing fringes or Tzitzit on the corners of the garment known as a Tallit.

Knots play a part in Hindu culture, Chinese and Japanese dress, and of course, in textile work and design in areas of embroidery, sewing, embellishments, and of course the Macramé craze, which has gone in and out of popularity in 1970’s and has a come back again into fashion.

You can't go camping without knowing how to properly tie down a tent, and any sailor will tell you that we couldn't have had any major exploratory adventures without tying decent knots to control the sailing vessels!

There are endless artistic possibilities, so come, learn and try for yourself!
