Friends Who Are Going
Event description

Description

The passionate Playworkers from the UK organization, Pop-Up Adventure Play, have embarked on a Pop-Ups Tour 2017 across Canada and the District of Timiskaming is thrilled to be one of their stops!

This workshop is designed for people who already believe in the benefits and importance of children’s self-directed play, and who are looking for inspiring examples of great practice. We’ll share key theories from Playwork to establish a shared vocabulary with which to examine nuances of risk, advocacy and more. New terms will be grounded in stories from a variety of settings, to show how supporting play (like play itself) is most usefully thought of as a process or approach. This workshop will be collaborative, reflective and empower participants to start
making changes in their own settings right away.

Workshop Flow
- Key vocabulary from playwork will be shared and illustrated through images and stories from practice
- A guided play memories exercise helps participants to reconnect with their own childhoods and personal understanding of play
- A hands-on play session encourages creative expression and connection
- A reflective conversation will be facilitated to help participants put their own experiences and preferences in a wider context
