Description

Playing with Language to Discover How Words Work: Engaging Phonological Awareness Instruction in the K-3 Classroom

K-3 educators are invited to join us for the 2nd Vancouver area POPEY workshop hosted by FISA BC. This workshop will provide an exploration of how words work through hands-on instruction & practice of phonological awareness skills & strategies.

We will delve into how to design Word Work instruction, routines & activities to create “hands-on, minds-on” experiences for students - to then enable & support effective reading & writing.

Included will be:

using language in creative & playful ways to help understand how language works

• through developmentally appropriate language games & activities

transferring phonological awareness concepts & strategies into reading & writing

All educators interested in strengthening early literacy skills are welcome. Lunch is included. Please email janet@fisabc.ca with any dietary concerns.

Registration 8:30 a.m.

Event 9:00 a.m. - 3:00 p.m.
