Have you been trained in UX, UI, or Digital Marketing but still require more real-client experience and work in your portfolio to get that job? Or are you an individual who just needs more complex high-profile work for you to get ahead in the industry?

Portfolio Accelerator is North America’s first and only skill and portfolio accelerator that operates as rapid design sprints in order to offer rapid, immersive learning, and high-quality individual deliverable outputs.

Who is this program for?

We developed this pure practicum, led by Global Award-Winning Industry leaders, for those who want roles as a: Digital Strategist, UX/UI Designer, Digital Designer, UX Strategist/Researcher, Analytics Analyst, SEO Manager, Social Media Manager, or Optimization Manager.

Who are the clients?

RED Academy has partnered with leading Not for Profits (NFPs) who will benefit from and launch the work produced from the hands-on portfolio accelerator. The partners and deliverables required change per design sprint.

What portfolio items will the participants get?

The team at RED Academy customizes the deliverables for each and every participant depending on the participant’s needs, skills, and the number of sprints in which he/she enrols. Examples of deliverables for the NFP clients can include, but are not limited to: Remote usability testing, in-person ISO-based usability testing, heuristic evaluations, wireframes, complex information architecture, personas, customer journeys, SEO strategy, analytics review and strategy, email marketing strategy and design templates, checkout flows, contest mini-sites, and even dashboard designs.

What will you get?

  • Individual portfolio reviews and mentorship

  • Interview and design challenge preparation

  • Individual deliverables, but you will work as part of an integrated team in an "agency-type’’ environment

  • Individual mentorship, design feedback cycles, leadership training for all assigned deliverables

  • Client reference, if your assigned NFP client is pleased with your work

When are the Design Sprints?

Fall 2017

  • Design Sprint 1 Fall 2017: In person at RED Nov 18 (10am - 3pm) and Nov 19 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Nov 20 at agreed schedule

  • Design Sprint 2 Fall 2017: In person at RED Dec 2 (10am - 3pm) and Dec 3 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Dec 4 at agreed schedule

  • Design Sprint 3 Fall 2017: In person at RED Dec 9 (10am - 3pm) and Dec 10 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Dec 10 at agreed schedule

Winter 2018

  • Design Sprint 1 Winter 2018: In person at RED Jan 6 (10am - 3pm) and Jan 7 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Jan 8 at agreed schedule

  • Design Sprint 2 Winter 2018: In person at RED Jan 13 (10am - 3pm) and Jan 14 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Jan 15 at agreed schedule

  • Design Sprint 3 Winter 2018: In person at RED Jan 20 (10am - 3pm) and Jan 21 (10am - 3pm), plus 3x remote check-ins week of Jan 22 at agreed schedule

Acceptance Requirements:

  1. Have graduated from an in-person UX, UI, and/or Digital Marketing Program

  2. Pass a skills and culture-fit interview with your assigned mentor

How much does it cost?

$495.00 per sprint or 3-sprints for $1295.

Those who participate in 3-sprints will benefit from more complex project assignments and an increased number of individual deliverables for their portfolio.

Tara O'Doherty:

Tara is the former VP of UX/UI at Cossette. For over 16 years Tara has been creating exceptional customer experiences and products for leaders like AT&T, Gap Inc., IDEO, Ericsson, Google, and SickKids. She is fueled by data, driven by Design Thinking, inspired by innovation, and guided by human-centric methodology for all online/offline touch-points including: mobile, IoT, wearables, and even Connected Car. Tara has been featured in a number of publications and speaks at dozens of conferences a year and has had the honour of receiving several Cannes Lions, a few pencils from The One Show, a collection of Cassie Golds, and dozens of CMA Awards.

Her work has even been featured in People Magazine, Mashable, and on CNN. In 2016 Tara was a judge for Strategy Magazine's Shoppers Innovation Awards and in 2017 was ranked as one of the top Digital Planners in the nation by Strategy Magazine.

Kendra Grudnik:

A global digital strategy + design leader, who has worked at RBC, Critical Mass and Cossette Communication Group, where she directed cross-disciplinary digital design teams that created strong user experience design frameworks that bridged communication across product design, brand, and development teams in order to creates delightful, innovative, seamless customer experiences that ranged across wearable, mobile and desktop environments.

For over 17 years, Kendra has worked on global brands like RBC, Citibank, BMO, Bell, AT&T, General Motors, General Mills, Coke, McDonald’s, Samsung and many more. Most recently, she has joined RED Academy as their Advisor-in-Residence mentoring full-time.

Kendra has expert-level expertise in scaling design, setting up global design principles, creating user experience design frameworks, setting up cross-disciplinary design guilds, leading frameworks teams, working with stakeholders, brand partners, product design leads and external agencies to set up and implement global design principles for large enterprises that are user-centric.
Kendra has received awards for Best Thought Leadership with extensive experience in a variety of industries across financial sectors, telecommunication, food services and healthcare.
