Event description

Learn to capture and edit high-impact portraits!

This is a hands-on, interactive #portraitphotography class where you will:

  • learn standard techniques for portrait lighting set-ups and posing
  • practice what you learn with models, using speedlights, natural light and other lighting modifers
  • retouch your portraits using either Photoshop or Lightroom

The portrait photography workshop schedule

9:00 - 9:30 am

  • general how-to lessons to learn about standard techniques, tips & tricks about camera settings, lights, modifiers reflectors, diffusers, working with models, posing, and any of your questions!

9:30 am - 12:30 pm

  • studio portraiture practice session with models and speedlights
  • natural light practice session with models (outdoors if weather permitting; indoors if it's raining)

12:30 - 1:00 pm

  • lunch (included in your registration fee)

1:00 - 2:30 pm

  • post-production retouching lessons in your choice of Photoshop or Lightroom software
  • practice with your own images from the day if you choose to bring a laptop

2:30 - 3:00 pm

  • Q&A with Lorna and Barb

Over six hours you will learn both speedlight and natural light/modifier lighting techniques, be able to vary backgrounds and props, work with models, receive constructive guidance on your shots, learn and practice editing techniques, and leave with a solid portfolio of portraits.

This workshop is kept at a very small size (only 6 participants) so you get plenty of time for one-on-one instruction and interaction.

What should I bring into the workshop?

Please bring your DSLR or mirrorless camera and your favourite lenses (excluding really wide-angle lenses), and know how to use your camera in manual mode. Also bring your speedlight if you have one, and a tripod.

If you want to practice editing your photos, bring your laptop with current versions of either Photoshop or Lightroom installed. Please be sure you have some general working knowledge of your preferred software.

Extra speedlights (Canon and Nikon), light modifiers, light triggers and receivers, backgrounds, props and models are supplied.

Lunch is provided. Please also bring some water and/or snacks if you require a break during six hours, but we know it will go quickly!

How can I contact the organizer with any questions?

Barbara Cameron: barb@barbaracameronpix.com

Lorna Scott: lornascott1949@gmail.com

What's the refund policy?

You can receive a full refund up to 7 days prior to the workshop date. That means there are no refunds after 9:00 am on Saturday, March 17.
