A Cultural Hotspot SPARK project in partnership with the City of Toronto …

This Interactive Online Event reimagines an ongoing creative process, titled Possibilities of Dialogue, led by choreographers Marielis Garcia (New York) and David Norsworthy (Toronto / Co-Director of TOES FOR DANCE). A participatory, theatrical, contemporary dance performance with the same title premiered in April 2019 in North York (Toronto), and now, under the current circumstances of COVID-19, we are exploring new ways of situating audiences and performers in conversation with one another.

How can performers and audiences come together through interactions that support autonomous and empowered involvement? How can we adapt and expand on our earlier creative research through a venue that is malleable, spaceless, and intangible?

Joined by North York-born and raised emerging artists, Lilly Giroux and Kevin Lau, we will lead audiences through guided/participatory movement explorations, perform conversational actions that discuss the history and meta-questions of our creative process, share excerpts of archival footage tracking our performative history, and hold space for reflective discussion with audience members.

No dance experience is necessary to join! Audience members can witness and/or engage to the extent of their comfort and delight. For more information about the Possibilities of Dialogue project, please click here.

The event will include:

  • Guided improvisational movement practise
  • Conversational actions/dance performance
  • Creative process discussion and reflection

Special thanks to our Cultural Hotspot partners, Cardinal Carter Academy for the Arts and North York Arts for their support!
