UPDATE: Due to concerns regarding COVID-19 (coronavirus) the National Summit 2020 will be postpone to June of 2021. While we regret to have to make this decision, Agrivita and our partners feel that it is the responsible course of action to best prioritize public health and safety during this rapidly evolving situation.


NATIONAL SUMMIT 2020: Driving Safety and Productivity in Canadian Agriculture with a FORUM ON MENTAL HEALTH IN AGRICULTURE

  • June 8th, 6:30 - 8:30 pm - Opening Reception. All registrants welcome!

  • June 9th, 8:00 am registrant check in

    9:00 am - 5:00 pm Summit sessions and Forum on Mental Health in Agriculture. Lunch provided.




The vision of the National Summit 2020 is that of a new generation of knowledge and technology to turn the tide of injury, death and illness in Canadian agriculture.

The National Summit 2020 aims to bring together producers, ag industry representatives, policy makers, safety professionals, and researchers to further Agrivita's national consultation process, to build and continue to act on a strategic agenda of applied research for Canada.

National Summit 2020 goals:

  • Celebrate: 2019 - 2024 Canadian AgriSafety Applied Science Program
  • Identify & Develop: New projects and partnerships for the Canadian AgriSafety Applied Science Program
  • Knowledge Exchange: Most recent knowledge, concepts, and views
  • Stakeholder Engagement: With producers, business, policy makers, safety professionals, scientists
  • Productivity: Driven through an enhanced safe and healthy workplace
  • Highlight on Mental Health in Agriculture with a focus on applied solutions

The National Summit 2020 a with Forum on Mental Health in Agriculture will feature speaker presentations on current and emerging issues in applied research in agriculture health and safety, as well as roundtable working group discussions focusing on Topics:

  1. Stress & mental health
  2. Migrant workers
  3. Inhaled hazards and confined spaces
  4. Children and older workers
  5. Virus and infections
  6. Six Steps to Safety
  7. Cannabis production
  8. Musculoskeletal injuries
  9. Machinery and injuries
  10. Ecological transitions in agriculture

Utilizing a transformative approach to the elimination of farm injuries and illness in Canada, stakeholders have identified topic areas for research based on the Hierarchy of Control. Building on this, the National Summit 2020 will:

  • Review and refine the topic areas in safety and health in Canadian agriculture.
  • Identify and assess research priorities of each topic area aimed at defining an applied research agenda for Canada in accordance with the Hierarchy of Control.
  • Establish project concepts from research priorities and teams of experts to develop new project plans, aiming at defining the next phase of the applied research agenda for Canada in accordance with the Hierarchy of Control.
