Description

Pottery Afternoon (Introductory to Intermediate)
Date: September 18 - November 20, 2017 (Mondays, 8 weeks)
Time: 1:00 pm to 4:00 pm
Instructor: Elizabeth Burtt
Fee: $130 plus HST (Members) | Fee: $149.50 plus HST (Non Members)

This class combines fun, practical knowledge, and a concise approach using handbuilding techniques leading up to throwing on the potter’s wheel. This class is suitable for both the beginner and intermediate level student. The instructor will go over the basics of wheel throwing-wedging, centering, pulling, trimming and finishing the clay to provide students with skills to make basic forms such as cups and bowls. For more advanced level students, help will be given in design, refining the form, and improving basic throwing skills to tackle more complex forms and designs. (No class September 25 & October 9)

The Instructor will discuss glazing, finishing techniques and students will take home several finished pieces of functional pottery. The Centre provides all tools, equipment, glazes and firings. Students purchase clay from the Centre.

Originally from Fredericton, Elizabeth studied pottery and textiles at the New Brunswick College of Craft & Design. After many years in the Arts Administration field and working at her art part-time, Elizabeth moved to Cape Breton in 2008 and began to work full-time as a potter. She uses all methods and techniques in working with clay-thrown, slab and slip cast, even making her own molds. Elizabeth’s work can be found in private collections in Canada, USA and abroad.
