MORNING LECTURE - 3CE credits

Course Title:

State of the Art Hygiene: A Virtual Reality Trip Through Cutting Edge Scaling Techniques

This course will provide participants with a virtual hands-on scaling experience in order to learn reinforced periodontal instrumentation techniques. Ideal biomechanical ergonomic postures will be demonstrated and then applied through audience participation during the seminar. The importance of incorporating larger muscle groups and ideal fulcrum rests to enhance lateral pressure, improve scaling efficiency and ensure injury prevention will also be emphasized.

Learning Outcomes (Exit skills)

Learning Outcome 1 - Upon completion, the participant shall be able to: Demonstrate reinforced periodontal instrumentation techniques and ideal fulcrum rests by utilizing both hands in order to enhance precision, prevention and protection while scaling •

Learning Outcome 2 - The participant will have a thorough understanding of: The importance of utilizing the larger muscle groups in the arms while scaling to enhance scaling efficacy, precision, and protection from pain and injury •

Learning Outcome 3 - The participant will be able to: Identify newer strategies to prevent awkward prolonged static postures and repetitive motion injuries in order to enhance career longevity and satisfaction

Afternoon Hands-On Additional 3CE Credits

Course Title:

The Secret to Power, Precision, and Prevention: Advanced Reinforced Periodontal Scaling Techniques

This course will provide you with a hands-on scaling experience designed to enhance scaling efficacy and proper ergonomics in order to prevent work related pain, musculoskeletal injuries, and disability. Through video clips and hands-on participation using instruments with wider handles, attendees will learn reinforced scaling techniques in every quadrant on a typodont model attached to a portable simulation unit.

Learning Outcome 1 – Upon completion, the participant shall be able to: Demonstrate advanced instrumentation techniques, ideal fulcrum rests and proper ergonomics to enhance precision, prevention and protection while scaling.

Learning Outcome 2 – The participant will have a thorough understanding of: The importance of using the larger muscle groups in the arms while scaling to enhance scaling efficacy and to protect the smaller muscle groups in the hands and wrists from repetitive motion injury that can lead to disability.

Learning Outcome 3 – The participant will be able to: Demonstrate ideal postural strategies around the patient chair for every quadrant while scaling in order to prevent prolonged static postures which can lead to career-ending injuries.
