Event description

Description

Have your classes become stale through the use of your presentation software? Are you inwardly worried that you might be inflicting “death by PowerPoint” on your students, volunteers, staff? Come join us for a fun, interactive session where you will learn the design strategies you need to use PowerPoint – and create active learning environments – well.

By the end of the session you will be able to:

• Describe the importance of using participatory learning strategies in any learning event
• Use several easy design strategies to keep your slide decks effective and complementary to your lesson – not the main event
• List a number of PowerPoint pitfalls to avoid in the future

About the facilitator:

Beth Cougler Blom is a self-employed learning designer who works with clients to help them create great courses. She designs for both the face-to-face and online modes. Beth is also a large group process facilitator and teaches courses and workshops in facilitation and teaching skills to various audiences.

Beth additionally enjoys a relationship with Royal Roads University as both an instructional designer in the Centre for Teaching and Educational Technologies (casual part-time), and an Associate Faculty member, teaching a course in the Graduate Certificate in Workplace Innovation.

Beth was the Manager of Training and Outreach at Volunteer Victoria from 2006 to 2012 and very involved in the Administrators of Volunteer Resources BC (AVRBC) organization for a number of years. Working with non-profit clients remains a strong interest and passion area for her. A Sooke resident, Beth is currently the President of the Sooke Community Choir.
