Trauma is reflected in how youth and children learn, play and engage. These behaviours can be commonly misinterpreted as acting out.
This workshop will focus on giving a better understanding of the pre-migration experiences of immigrant and refugee youth and children, and will provide simple strategies to help them cope with trauma.
About the Facilitator:
Karin Linschoten has been a counsellor/therapist at the Edmonton Mennonite Centre for Newcomers since 2002, providing counselling services for adults, youth and children from immigrant and refugee backgrounds. She also works as a mentor/counsellor at the Multicultural Health Broker's Cooperative, providing case consultation and counselling services for families from refugee and immigrant backgrounds and is the Representative for Canada on the International Council for Rehabilitation of Torture Victims.
